Snooker

Stoke Snooker Club is represented by teams in the Gosport and Fareham Snooker League and the Portsmouth Billiards League.

Rose and Dave welcome interest from players who wish to set teams up to represent Stoke Snooker Club at Snooker or Billiards.

The Gosport and Fareham League is currently split into two divisions and we are represented in both divisions.

Stoke A were crown champions when they won the Bob Lomax Trophy at the Mayfair Club on Wednesday 24th May 2006. In a thrilling and nailbiting final against Hillpark the final finished on a deciding frame after each match finished 1 frame each. Stoke A represented by Steve Spillett, Dean Freeman, Sean Spillett, Adam Bobat, Mo Bobat and Andrew Rigby played well against their opponents and it was left to Steve Spillett to win the deciding frame against Paul Drummond. The trophy was presented to Stoke A by Barbara Lomax owner of the Mayfair snooker club.

The match was watched by Ron Knight, chairman of the League, who stated that it was an excellent match and good for the kids and snooker.

In Division One Stoke B finished the season in second place with 174 points. (LRBL C won the division with 181 points). The players from Stoke B feature in the high breaks league 2005 / 2006. Chris Robinson with breaks of 73, 44 and 40, Paul Foster with breaks of 61, 54, 52 and a further 9 breaks over 30 during the season. Dave Coombs with breaks of 41, 40 and 38, Dave Joss with breaks of 40 and 33, Joe Booker with breaks of 40 and 30. Roger May, the team captain, also had a high break of 36 during the season. These are just a few members of Stoke B and all players are congratulated for their achievement in the league.

In Division Two we are represented by 3 teams, Stoke A, Metrose.com and Stoke Sharks. At the conclusion of this season, after 24 matches, we occupied 3 out of the top four positions. Metrose.com eventually won the league with their last match of the season to take the top spot by one point away from Stoke A, 172 points to 171. Although we congratulate Metrose.com for winning the league, a special mention should go to Stoke A as it was their first season in the league. Stoke A are predominately members of Stoke Juniors with their youngest player Adam Bobat being 9 years of age. Adam also returned statistics of played 20, won 13, drawn 7 and lost 0. Inview of their age we have Dads and Grandads who also play in the team. Jack Robson with his team of Tony Dearing, Dean Freeman, Steve Spillett, Andrew Rigby, Adam Bobat, Mo Bobat and Sean Spillett are congratulated for this superb achievement.

Returning to Metrose.com, Champions of Division Two, they won 18 matches out of 24 and as already stated won the league by one point. In the high breaks league 2005 / 2006 Nick Beer had breaks of 48 and two breaks of 30 with Carl Speed achieving breaks of 33, 31 and 30. Again snooker in this league is a team game and all players are congratulated for this wonderful achievement.

Both Metros.com and Stoke A should be promoted to Division One for the next season, 2006 / 2007.

Our other team in Division Two, Stoke Sharks, finished fourth, just missing the third spot by 3 points. Stoke Sharks also represent Stoke Snooker Club in the Billiards league. Members of Stoke Sharks also appear in the high breaks league for 2005 / 2006 with Gary Marks achieving breaks of 49 and 33, Mike Hart achieving breaks of 47 and 35 and Stuart Burton achieving a break of 32 during a league match. All members of Stoke Sharks are congratulated for their achievement this season.

The Gosport and Fareham League also organise a number of competitions throughout the season.

The final of the Brian Sellens Competition 2005 / 2006 was played on the 20th April 2006 and was won by Tony Dearing from Stoke A. This is another fantastic result for such a young player and Tony is congratulated for this achievement.

The final of the Bob Lomax Memorial Trophy is to be played on the 24th May 2006 and features Stoke A against Hillpark B. In the semi final match, Adam Bobat achieved a high break of 46 points during his match. Stoke B lost in the quarter final stages of this competition.
